Browsing At Marriage Fair

In the West, there are online dating apps; in China, there are in-person marriage fairs–in addition to apps. Fairgoers browse photos of individuals exhibiting their profiles at the fair. [The researcher] took this photo on April 17, 2017, in Jinan City, Shandong Province, when she collected data for her doctoral thesis on the transformation of population governance strategies in China. She interviewed fairgoers and statistically analyzed the profiles of hundreds of fair exhibitors about state’s influence on dating and marriage.
