Anthropology Chair’s Special Discretionary Fund

Fund to be used for various purpopses..stated below. . I would like to make the donation anonymously (never sure how to spell that). And I would like it to go into something we can call “Chair’s Special Discretionary fund”. I would a few broad stipulations in place stipulations in place, not to impede using the fund, but to make its use clear. First, I’d like the fund to be used for the following purposes: • General expenses pertaining to the Anthropology Students’ Colloquium not exceeding $150 per year with the proviso that the Dean of Science be asked to provide matching funds • General expenses pertaining to the Linguistics Students’ Colloquium not exceeding $150 per year with the proviso that the Dean of Arts be asked to provide matching funds • General expenses pertaining to student museum display projects, not exceeding $150 per year with the proviso that the Anthropology Department provide matching funds • General expenses pertaining to printing student posters related to research in their courses not exceeding $150 per year with the proviso that the Anthropology Department provide matching funds • General expenses pertaining to the Anthropology Department Visiting Speakers not exceeding $300 per year with the proviso that the Department provide matching funds • General expenses pertaining to supporting Visiting Speakers from other Departments not exceeding $300 per year with the proviso that the Dean of Science be asked to provide matching funds • General expenses at the discretion of the Anthropology Chair or Acting Chair not exceeding $300 per year General expenses could include (but are not restricted) to things such as the following: • taking Department Visiting Speakers for lunch at the Faculty Club or some similar venue • supplying food, juice, and coffee for student colloquia; a student book prize for the best essay, poster or PowerPoint presentation at student colloquia • purchase of materials for the construction of museum installations • printing costs related to posters Provisos with regard to matching funds from Deans are not binding on the use of the funds, but to assist in building goodwill between the Anthropology Department and the Deans of Arts and of Science. The fund would be placed in a dedicated account that could be accessed by the Chair/ Acting Chair or others with signing authority in the Anthropology Department. Claiming expenses through the fund would require the Dean or Associate Dean of Science to countersign forms.

John Dee Maurer Memorial Scholarship

Department: Anthropology

This Scholarship will be awarded to a student in an Anthropology Major or Honours program who is entering the Third or Fourth Year and has a record of outstanding achievement.

Maddison Yetman Hope Scholarship

Department: Anthropology

This scholarship has been established in loving memory by the friends and family of Maddison Yetman and honours this amazing young woman’s passion for Anthropology, social engagement and the pursuit of knowledge. Maddison had a love for life and living which inspired everyone she met, including her peers in the UWinnipeg Department of Anthropology. This scholarship will be given to a student at The University of Winnipeg, who has taken at least one course in Anthropology. The candidate will be selected by a committee made of Anthropology Faculty and, when possible, members of the UWASA.Faculty and members of the UWASA may encourage their peers to apply for the award. This scholarship is a celebration of Maddison`s life, and a way for her loved ones to share her story. The recipient will be identified as someone who embodies Maddison`s spirit for life and education through active engagement in the Department either through class participation or involvement in department-related extracurricular activities such as the Anthropology Speaker Series or Colloquium.

Sara & Isadore Gurevitch Memorial Scholarship in Anthropology

Department: Anthropology

This Scholarship is provided by the Erica and Arnold Rogers Fund for Academic Excellence. It will be awarded annually to the most promising student entering the final year of the 4-year or Honours Anthropology program.
