Angela E. Davis Memorial Prize
This Prize is presented in memory of Dr. Angela Davis, a 1977 B.A.(Hons.) and 1979 M.A. graduate of The University, who had a long-standing and passionate interest in both history and art. It will be awarded every second year to the student who obtains the highest standing in History 2801, rethinking Canadian Art.
Carolyn D. Rickey Bursary in History
This Bursary, established in 2007, will be awarded on the basis of financial need to a Second or Third year student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in History.
Chair in German-Canadian Studies
To create a place for funds to be directed and to give a historical background of the chair and the founding gifts related to its creation.
Dr. Paul H.T. Thorlakson Scholarship in Canadian History
This Scholarship is provided by the Erica and Arnold Rogers Fund for Academic Excellence. It will be awarded annually to the most promising student entering the Final year of the Honours program with a demonstrated interest in Canadian History and, preferably, but not necessarily, in Western Canadian History.
Erica & Arnold Rogers Scholarship in History
This Scholarship is provided by the Erica and Arnold Rogers Fund for Academic Excellence. It will be awarded to a student who has completed First Year (30 credit hours) and who intends to major in History in the General, 4-year, or Honours program.
Frederick Bancroft Memorial Prize in Canadian History
This Prize is donated by the family of the late Frederick Bancroft in memory of his long-standing interest in history. It will be awarded annually to the student who obtains the highest standing in History 2500, Survey History of Canada, or its equivalent, History 2503, and 2504, Survey History of Canada.
Future Fund – History
The Future Fund will provide the History department with flexible and critical resources required to address the immediate academic priorities (area of greatest need) of today while building a secure foundation for the future. The purpose of the fund is to strengthen and support the academic mission and vision of the University by supporting the academic units, innovation and community. The flexibility of the fund will build on existing efforts; create new opportunities and open doors to innovative academic development as strategically identified by the Chair of the Department. More specifically, the fund will support activities such as faculty research, academic enhancements and development, innovative programming, chairs, professorships, facilities and infrastructure upgrades and technology, supporting students and faculty experiences gained through competitions, case studies, exchanges, conferences, faculty and staff recruitment, etc. The Future Fund will include undesignated and designated funds (if designated by a donor) that will enable the Chair the opportunity to allocate and assign funding to address strategic priorities and critical needs.
H. Sanford Riley Fellowship in Canadian History
The Endowed Fund for the H. Sanford Riley Fellowship in Canadian History was established by Chancellor H. Sanford Riley in 2005 as part of The University of Winnipeg Foundation capital development campaign. As Founder and Chair of The University of Winnipeg Foundation, Chancellor Riley established this fund for the purpose of enabling Canadian historians to visit The University of Winnipeg as Fellows for periods of time varying from several weeks to six months to undertake research projects, conduct academic seminars, and offer public lectures and presentations in Canadian history. Each Fellow will be invited to undertake a Distinguished Lecture for the community and to contribute to the development of interest in Canadian History among high school students.
Hanna Family Scholarship
This Scholarship was established by Alan (LL.D. 1992; Board of Regents, 1976-1991, and Chair, 1984-86) and Dianne (UW student of Classics and Art History), proud parents of Robert (UW student of Philosophy), Douglas, and Donald, all of whom are university medalists. It will be awarded to a student with high academic standing who is continuing studies towards a degree at The University of Winnipeg. Special consideration may be given to students majoring in Classics, History, or Philosophy.
Heather Vander Stoel Memorial Bursary in History
This bursary was established to provide financial aid to a full-time student studying History at The University of Winnipeg. This bursary was established through a bequest to The University of Winnipeg Foundation from the Estate of Reverend Nico Vander Stoel. Reverend Vander Stoel was an alumnus of The University of Winnipeg, 1964 BA, 1971 BD and 1981 M.Div.
Herbert J. Mays Scholarship in History
Established in memory of Dr. Herbert J. Mays, this Scholarship will be awarded to a student of outstanding academic promise who is studying Canadian History and who is entering either Fourth Year Honours or a program leading to a Master’s degree at The University of Winnipeg. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated interest in Canadian Social History. The Scholarship is established by family and friends of Dr. Mays, teacher, department chair, senior administrator, and fellow of United College. Dr. Mays made significant contributions to The University of Winnipeg’s Department of History and University-wide administration.
