Alyson Shane Memorial Award in Rhetoric

Department: Rhetoric, Writing & Communication

This award supports a Rhetoric major with demonstrated financial need, a strong aptitude for communication, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their community and workplace. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time, have completed at least 24 credit hours, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Selection is competitive. Preference will be given to students who identify as any of the following: Female, Indigenous, or LGBTQ+IA. This award is renewable for up to four years, provided the recipient continues to meet the course load and GPA requirements. Alyson Shane was the brightest soul, her smile lit up the world. Her unique ability to connect people has touched lives all over the world, this skill allowed her to thrive in the world of social media marketing. To her memory, we want to empower students in her chosen field to achieve their goals.

Michael Collins McIntyre Rhetoric, Writing and Communications Scholarship

Department: Rhetoric, Writing & Communication

This Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has declared a major in Rhetoric, Writing and Communications, has completed a minimum of 30 credit hours with a high mark in Academic Writing, and further demonstrates excellent writing abilities. The creation of this scholarship is in celebration of Michael Collins McIntyre, a much-loved Psychology Professor, who is described by his students as a brilliant professor with a great passion for learning and teaching, a storyteller of science, a mentor, and a friend. Dr. McIntyre was also a well-respected Dean of Arts and Science from 1982-92 and helped launch The University of Winnipeg’s Writing Program which has now become the Department of Rhetoric, Writing and Communications. Of all his many accomplishments in the academic world, the creation and success of this Department is one of his proudest.

Reeh & Pamela Taylor Family Academic Travel Award

Department: Rhetoric, Writing & Communication

This Award was established by friends, colleagues, and family to honour Reeh Taylor on the occasion of his investiture as a Fellow of The University of Winnipeg. It will provide financial support to students in the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications to assist students with travel and other costs related to the presentation of papers at academic conferences, symposia, or colloquia.

A Scholarship will be awarded annually, on the nomination of the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications, to students with outstanding records at The University of Winnipeg who are proceeding to further study majoring in Rhetoric and Communications.
