Ana Grace Marquez-Greene Memorial Bursary
This Bursary will provide assistance to a student pursuing a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at the Aurora Family Therapy Centre at The University of Winnipeg. This Bursary is established in memory of Ana Marquez-Greene, a six-year-old girl from Winnipeg who tragically died in the Sandy Hook, Newtown, Connecticut shootings in December 2012. Recipients must demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Lawrence Whytehead Memorial Bursary
Established in memory of Dr. Lawrence Whytehead, who devoted so much of his time to working with immigrants and refugees. The Bursary will provide financial assistance to deserving students in the Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program. Preference will be shown to new Canadians and Indigenous students.
Dr. Richard N. Dearing Bursary
This Bursary is to be awarded to a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy student with financial need. The Richard N. Dearing Bursary was established in honour of Dick’s contributions to the Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program. Dick Dearing was the Executive Director of Interfaith/Aurora from 1985-2001. Under his wise leadership two courses grew into two certificates, which in turn grew into an internationally accredited Master’s degree. In 2001 he received the Marsha Hanen Award for Excellence in Creating Community Awareness. As Director of the Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program, one of his priorities was to have bursary money available to students with financial need so it is fitting that the Dr. Richard N. Dearing Bursary will continue this legacy.
Dr. Ronald J. Con Memorial Scholarship in Humanities
To provide a scholarship for a student-in-training at the Aurora Family Therapy Centre at The University of Winnipeg who is pursuing a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy focusing on adult education, human relations, inter-cultural understanding or religion. This Scholarship is administered through The Winnipeg Foundation.
Gloria Erickson Bursary
This Bursary was established for Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy students in 2008 by Randy Rehbein and Family in memory of his mom Gloria Erickson. Preference will be given to a single parent to realize their dream of achieving a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy degree, in recognition of all parents who work outside the home to provide for their children, and set their dreams aside.
Jack Boyd Memorial Bursary
This Bursary was established in 2008 by Marilyn Boyd, former Executive Director of the Aurora Family Therapy Centre, in memory of her father Jack Boyd. It will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program who demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to a student with a disability.
John Millar Bursary
This Bursary will support a student who demonstrates financial need who is enrolled in the Marriage and Family Counselling Program at The University of Winnipeg.
John R. Smyth Bursary
This bursary is to be awarded to a student enrolled in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program and doing a practicum at the Aurora Family Therapy Centre. Recipients must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to new Canadians and Indigenous students. The bursary was established in honour of John‘s commitment to the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program, and to the Aurora Family Therapy Centre. As executive director of the Aurora Family Therapy Centre for just over a decade, John was Aurora‘s most senior administrator, therapist, clinical supervisor, and supervisor mentor until his retirement. John demonstrated extraordinary determination in the growth and development of the Centre, especially in the creation of the Newcomer Community Development Program, his work to create relationships with many ethno-cultural communities and their leaders, and supporting communities through our Newcomer Summer Youth Enhancement Program and the SCREEN Program. He is most proud of the agency‘s for successfully creating the Dove of Peace Program, and developing mental health services for new Canadians, especially refugees.
Maria Gomori Bursary
This Bursary is to be awarded to students enrolled in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program that demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to student applicants who demonstrate in their application, their interest and knowledge of the Satir model (the basic beliefs, values and principles of the Satir Model of Family Therapy). Maria Gomori, who is 96 years young in 2016, has taught Family Reconstruction in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program for many years. She was a close friend of Virginia Satir, carrying on her work since Virginia’s death in 1988. Maria established the Satir Professional development Institute of Manitoba for this purpose, and has made frequent trips to Asia and Europe to teach the Satir method. This Bursary honours Maria’s devotion to family therapy and her amazing vitality and enthusiasm for life.
Marilyn Boyd Bursary
This Bursary is to be awarded to a student enrolled in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program that demonstrates financial need. Recipients must also demonstrate caring leadership and visionary qualities. The Bursary was established in honour of Marilyn’s extraordinary commitment to the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program. As an Executive Director of the Aurora Family Therapy Centre, Marilyn led the “Build a Bursary” campaign, creating legacies for future students.
Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy Alumni Bursary
This bursary will be awarded to interns and practicum therapists in the Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy program, to attend professional development events. Recipients must demonstrate financial need.
