With an auger (a soil sampling tool) in hand and a bottle of water, my labmate Tia ventures into the boreal forest of the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, Ontario, to collect soil samples for her research on characterizing dissolved organic matter in boreal forested catchments using absorbance and fluorescence.
